Terrific Science Press receives award


Curious Crayons: Early Childhood Science in Living Color
Miami University's Terrific Science Press has been honored by the National Best Books 2008 Awards sponsored by USA Book News, a national competition for mainstream and independent publishing houses. The Terrific Science Press publication Curious Crayons: Early Childhood Science in Living Color was selected as an award-winning finalist in the Education Pre-K-12 category.

Curious Crayons offers a way for early childhood teachers to bring science into their classrooms. Targeted to ages 3-8, the book includes 19 hands-on activities designed to build science process skills, including observing, communicating, comparing, measuring and organizing. The book follows National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) guidelines and National Science Education Standards for developmentally appropriate curriculums.

The book is co-written by Ann Veith, retiree of Rosedale Elementary School, Middletown; Beverly Kutsunai, Kamehameha Elementary School, Honolulu, Hawaii; and Lynn Hogue, Miami University Center for Chemistry Education. Mickey Sarquis, director of the center, is the editor.
