The first of over 5000 new Cisco VoIP telephones will be placed on desks beginning immediately after winter break. The project team plans to replace an average of 300 telephones each week between Jan. 5 and June 30. To find out when your phone will be replaced, go to the new project Web site, www.muohio.edu/voip and click on the schedules link.
The new telephone service offers all of the basic functions of the current system and will add a number of new features. VoIP phones will integrate with the muConnect/Exchange system, allowing access to voicemail from the Exchange Inbox or listen to e-mail from tje telephone. Conference calling with up to six parties can be placed from any VoIP phone. Information about new features is available in the FAQ section of the project Web site.
While using the basic functions of the new telephone will be easy, training is being offered to make using the new features just as effortless. Basic, hands-on training sessions will be offered each week and everyone is encouraged to attend. To be most useful plan to attend either the week when the new phone is installed, or the week prior. View currently scheduled sessions and register by clicking on TRAIN and looking for "Voice over IP (VoIP) Phone and Voicemail System - Basic Training."
Each department or office has a departmental contact who is coordinating communication with the VoIP project team. These individuals are an essential element in the success of the VoIP project. Contacts will work closely with project team members to ensure their department's new telephone service matches its needs and to smooth the transition from old to new. Departmental contacts are listed in the project schedule spreadsheet.
As the new semester and the project progress, up-to-date information about the VoIP project will be posted to the project Web site: www.muohio.edu/voip.
