Miami's Institutional Response Team alerts the community to a string of break-ins: Oxford police report a series of burglaries in Oxford Dec. 27th and 29th, many involving Miami students' homes.
Police report an attempted burglary in the 200 block of S. Poplar, and a full break-in with items taken in the 600 block of McGuffey Ave. on Dec. 27.
Police also report that in the morning of Dec. 29, burglars forced their way into six homes of Miami students and three homes of non-students. No items were reported missing at these homes, and landlords and residents have been notified. Three student homes were in the 400 block of S. Poplar, two in the 0 block of Wooster and one in the 100 block of Oberlin Ct.
Police remind students that if they are alone, asleep or away from their homes, to lock first-floor doors and windows. Residents are also advised to engrave or otherwise place identifying tags in a non-conspicuous location on valuable items.
Over this winter break, Oxford police are performing vacant house checks on 300 homes of residents who'd requested them. The vacant house check form is found at www.cityofoxford.org.
