Letter from Dean of Students: Van accident involving students

Update Jan. 12

Of the four hospitalized students, three have been discharged and one student remains hospitalized listed in good condition.

Dear Miami community,

I write to alert you about a vehicle accident involving eight members of the Miami Glee Club at about 10:45 this morning (Jan. 6). Four of the eight students were injured.

Members of the Miami Men's Glee Club are on a concert tour performing in a number of cities in the northeast. Five vans and a bus are making the trip. The four injured students were in one van that rolled off the highway near Erie, Pa. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The four injured students are recuperating at an Erie, Pa., hospital. Their conditions range from fair to serious but do not appear at this time to be life threatening.

University and hospital officials have spoken with parents of the students who were injured and Glee Club advisers have talked with other members' families.

Most of the Glee Club has continued on the tour.

The university will continue to provide support for all involved.

Susan Mosley-Howard
Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
