MOSAIC Youth Theatre at Miami for free performances

The internationally known Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, made up of performers aged 12-20, will give two free performances at Miami University Oct. 16-17.

A multicultural arts group, Mosaic will perform "Everybody’s Talkin’" at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in Hall Auditorium. A vocal concert will be presented at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in Presser Hall.

"Everybody’s Talkin’" takes a fresh look at Shakespeare’s "Much Ado About Nothing" by presenting the classic comedy in Motown style. As is the case with all Mosaic presentations, ensemble members wrote or designed every element of the production, including the script, music, sets, costumes, lighting and sound. The result is a high-energy performance described in the Detroit Daily News as "genuinely striking entertainment."

Mosaic regularly performs throughout the United States and was the U.S. representative to the 1996 World Festival of Children’s Theatre, held in Denmark. The company received a 1998 Governor’s Award for Arts and Culture from the State of Michigan.

This is the company’s third visit to the Miami campus.

Mosaic’s appearance is sponsored by the office of admission, the College of Arts and Science, the theatre and music departments, the Campus Activities Council and the Multicultural Concert and Lecture Board.

Both performances are free and open to the public.
