Applicants sought for Singer Scholarship

Sophomore or junior philosophy majors are encouraged to apply for the Linda Singer Memorial Scholarship, worth approximately $2,000.

The scholarshp is awarded annually in honor of Singer, a member of Miami’s philosophy department who died in 1990 at the age of 39.

"Linda’s varied interests were evidenced in her teaching, and her vivacious personality endeared her to students and colleagues," said Jim Kelly (philosophy).

The formal application should include a letter stating goals and purposes in pursuing the study of philosophy, an academic writing sample, at least one letter of recommendation from a college faculty member and a copy of student transcripts. Awards will be based primarily on academic merit.

Applications and supporting documents should be sent to the Linda Singer scholarship committee, philosophy department, by Feb. 18.
The scholarship is supported by her parents, Eugene and Vivian Singer.
