Erik Swyngedouw, university reader in geography at Oxford University and fellow of St. Peter’s College, will lecture on the "Modernity and Hybridity: The Production of Nature and the Beginning of Geography" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, in 215 Shideler Hall.
Swyngedouw is author or co-author of seven books, 37 chapters and 46 journal articles, many concerned with local impacts of a globalizing economy. A native of Belgium, Swyngedouw received a master’s degree at the University of Leuven and a doctorate at Johns Hopkins University.
The fifth annual McConnell Lecture in the geography department is funded through the Wallace and Della McConnell Memorial Fund, established by their daughter Ruth. Wallace McConnell was a professor of geography 1918-52 and department chair 1946-52.
