Fall 1999 international initiatives awards announced

A total of $22,125 has been awarded to faculty from the Philip and Elaina Hampton Fund for Faculty International Initiatives.

Fall competition awardees, their projects and the amount of their awards follow:
Jennie P. Dautermann, English, "Exploring and Teaching International Business and Technical Writing (China)," $1,500;

Reginald Fennell, physical education, health and sport studies, "Development of Study Abroad Program in International Health (France/Switzerland)," $2,200;

Catherine E. Karkov, art, "Sheela-na-gigs: Beyond the Pale (Ireland)," $1,495;

Noriko T. Reider, German, Russian and East Asian languages, "Oni, Demons in Japanese Folklore and Literature," $3,950;

Sergio L. Sanabria, architecture and interior design, "Documentation of Ancient Greek Sites (Italy, Greece, Sicily and Turkey)," $3,600;

Robert Wendel, teacher education, "A Comparative Analysis of Cuba’s Educational System Within the Context of Current Socio-Economic and Political Conditions," $3,000; and

Liz Wilson, religion, "You Are What You Eat; Food, Health and Salvation in the Religions of India," $6,380.

The deadline for proposals in the spring round of competition is March 15.
