Adeed Dawisha to deliver Finch Lecture
Adeed Dawisha (political science) will deliver this year’s Finch Lecture on World Affairs at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in 128 Pearson Hall. He will speak on "Nationalism and the Crisis of Democracy in the Arab World."
A leading expert on the politics in the Middle East, Dawisha has served as a consultant to the State and Defense departments and other U.S. government agencies and was a Fulbright Research Fellow in Cairo, Egypt. He has also held the posts of senior fellow at Britain’s Institute for Strategic Studies and deputy director of studies at the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
Dawisha is author or editor of nine books, including the forthcoming The Rise and Fall of Arab Nationalism in the Twentieth Century.
Prior to joining Miami’s faculty this year, Dawisha was professor of government and politics at George Mason University.
The Finch Lecture Series is sponsored by the department of political science through a bequest in honor of educator Marian Finch.
