Lavatus Powell Honorary Conference to build community of allies for diversity
Keynote speaker Ron Archer of the Archer Institute will talk about the importance of a diverse and understanding community at the first Lavatus Powell Honorary Conference 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the Heritage Room of Shriver Center.
The goal of the conference is to bring together the different communities in the Oxford area — civic leaders, Miami students, administrators, Miami and Oxford police departments, business owners, members of Talawanda’s school community, various faith communities and others — to engage in a constructive dialogue.
"We hope that this discussion will begin to build a community of allies who better understand and respect the diversity of perspectives in Oxford in order to create a stronger and more welcoming community for all of our members," said Chris Warren, director of public relations for campus activities council (CAC).
Everyone interested is encouraged to attend and participate in the round-table, open discourse format.
Contact Mike Yeazell, 9-7447, or Kristel Herzog, 9-4824, for more information.
The conference is sponsored by CAC’s multicultural concert and lecture board.
