1809 Lambda Alumni announce scholarship competition

A $1,000 scholarship competition sponsored by the 1809 Lambda Alumni is open to all currently enrolled Miami undergraduates.

Entrants should submit a 15+ page paper examining a topic in the field of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered and queer (LGBTQ) studies to shandran93@aol.com by April 30. The winning entry will be announced at the beginning of the fall semester 2001.

Melanie Rubenstein ’00, a senior interdisciplinary studies major, was awarded the first LGBT scholarship for her work, "Flirting with the "i": Exploring the Identities of Jewish Queer Women."

The goal of the 1809 Lambda Alumni’s scholarship is to encourage undergraduate scholarly work in the area of LGBT studies and foster a more sensitive, tolerant campus and scholarly climate for LGBT scholars.

For more information, contact Shandra Niswander at the e-mail above or at (630) 241-2176, or visit www.muohio.edu/~GLBAcwis/1809alumni/index.html.
