Alumna wins $25,000 Milken Educator Award

Laura Thompson-Beato, 1989 graduate of Miami, was one of 145 educators nationwide to receive the 2000 Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award.

The award, which includes an unrestricted $25,000, is given to educators recognized for outstanding instruction in the classroom and ability to motivate and impact students. The award program — the largest teacher recognition program in the country — was created in 1985 to reward, retain and attract the highest caliber of teachers to the profession.

Thompson-Beato teaches fourth grade at King-Murphy Elementary School in Evergreen, Colo.
