Loeffelman winner of Christopher Eggerton Memorial Scholarship
Michael Loeffelman of Columbus is the most recent recipient of the Christopher Eggerton Memorial Scholarship, named for a Miami student who died Nov. 18, 1995, in a blizzard in the French Alps.
Loeffelman will be a junior in Miami’s School of Interdisciplinary Studies (Western College Program) during the coming academic year. He has created a self-designed program that explores international studies, anthropology, history and economics as preparation for a position teaching social sciences. This fall he will participate in the Semester at Sea program through the University of Pittsburgh.
Christopher Eggerton was a junior in the Western College Program, focusing on cultural studies, at the time of his death. The scholarship was established by his parents, Terry and Linda Eggerton of Mansfield, who attended the presentation ceremony April 28 along with faculty and students.
The $1,000 scholarship is awarded annually to at least one sophomore in the Western College Program who demonstrates leadership and involvement in the program and the community and who plans to study abroad.
