Senate approves U.S. cultures requirement

University Senate Monday approved the abbreviated minutes of the Sept. 24 meeting to include SR 02-04 that restructures the Miami Plan for Liberal Education to create a U.S. cultures requirement.

SR 02-04

BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Miami Plan Foundation be restructured as delineated in the proposal set forth below with an interim report to University Senate from Liberal Education Council after the first year. Implementation of this U.S. Cultures requirement will be for incoming students Fall 2002.

Twenty-five members of Faculty Assembly can challenge the resolution by filing a petition with the Secretary of the University within 10 class days after its publication in this issue of The Miami Report. Absent a challenge by Faculty Assembly, these policies will be forwarded to the President and the board of trustees for consideration.

In other business, Senators heard a presentation from Dean Marek Dollár, School of Engineering and Applied Science, on "Reshaping the Education of Engineers and Computer Scientists at Miami University."
