Hal Jasper to receive alumni’s Bishop Medal

The Bishop Medal, presented to alumni who have demonstrated a lifetime of service to others, is presented this year to Hal Jasper ’52, professor emeritus, accountancy.

For half a century Jasper has made extensive contributions to the community. His volunteer activity on campus has included significant involvement with intercollegiate athletics, service to the campaign committee, membership on the alumni board, the summer theater board, and time as a mentor to the Alumni Scholars program.

Additionally he has served as treasurer of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and was a member on University Council, Student Disciplinary Board, Campus Planning Committee and the Truman Scholarship Selection Committee.

Jasper was honored as Accounting Professor of the Year in 1990 by the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants; he has received the Outstanding Instructor Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and has been honored by his students with the Order of Omega Award in recognition of his exceptional concern and interests in students.

Jasper’s service record also extends to the Oxford community. For two decades, he has been a member of the board of trustees of McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital. He has also served as president of the United Way, treasurer of the Oxford NAACP, finance chair and treasurer for Faith Lutheran Church, trustee and treasurer for People United for Self-Help and the Talawanda High School Booster Club, as well as other organizations.
