ItaliAfrica: book comes from symposium
A new book, ItaliAfrica: Bridging Continents and Cultures, comes from an interdisciplinary international symposium at Miami that focused on the interrelationship between Africa and Italy.
The book, edited by Sante Matteo (French and Italian), includes 25 essays that were presented at the 1998 conference, covering past, present and future anthropological and cultural relations between Italy and Africa.
Miami contributors include Matteo, Paul Jackson (theatre), Peter Pedroni (French and Italian), Larry Mayer (formerly of geology), Edwin Yamauchi (history), Stefano Bellucci (former graduate student), Eric Otenyo (former graduate student) and Maria Silvia Riccio (former graduate student).
An Italian version of the book, Africa Italia: Due continenti si avvicinano, was previously published with fewer essays.
Support for the symposium and the book came from the College of Arts and Science; the office for the advancement of scholarship and teaching; the departments of French and Italian, political science, geology and geography; office of the provost; the Graduate School; the student affairs office; and the black world studies and international studies programs.
