Hamilton theatre department to present original work

The Miami Hamilton theatre department presents an original play, "There’s No Place Like____.," at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2-3, in Parrish Auditorium.

The two evenings of readers’ theater and scene study, where audience members are invited to write and share pieces with actors during the show, features local poet Pat Steele.

Audience members are encouraged to help create instant theater performances and fill in the blank of the title by adding their voices to those of a diverse collection of authors, including Langston Hughes, Mark Twain, Shel Silverstein and Monty Python’s John Cleese.

Local musician Farrell Goodman is a featured guest. Another special guest is Fairfield High School student Sami Shaaban who will read his original works about his Muslim faith.

According to Rebecca Eaton, visiting instructor and director of the project, "We are thrilled to have just recently been established as a full department of theatre on the Hamilton campus. One of our main goals this year is to open up our department to the community and encourage participation.

Future productions will have open cast auditions for anyone in the community interested in becoming a cast or crew member, Eaton said.

Tickets are $2 for children and students and $4 for all others. Tickets can be purchased at the door or through the business office at Miami Hamilton.
