Open house Nov. 9 for Walter L. Gross Jr. Family Student-Athlete Development Center
Intercollegiate athletics will host an open house for the Walter L. Gross Jr. Family Student-Athlete Development Center from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9.
The center, which serves both the academic and strength conditioning needs of student-athletes, is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the country.
The building has two wings — one for athletics, containing two offices and a 10,000-square-foot, bi-level strength and conditioning center furnished with weight equipment, and another for academics, containing a computer lab, 15 computer stations, two large study rooms and three academic offices.
A granite Miami insignia with a starburst motif and a two-story dome welcome visitors into the reception area. Plans include decorating the dome with a 360-degree mural representing Miami athletic teams and a historical record of Miami’s all-American athletic and academic honorees.
The Gross Center, which was built with donated funds, was dedicated Sept. 22.
"We believe the center will provide student-athletes with the opportunity to enhance their abilities in both the academic and athletic arenas and to carry on the long-standing tradition of excellence for which Miami is so respected," said Karen Womack, executive associate director of intercollegiate athletics.
