Faculty member receives OSU alumni award
Marcia Baxter Magolda (educational leadership) recently received the Alumni Award of Distinction from the Ohio State University College of Education Alumni organization.
Baxter Magolda, recognized for outstanding contributions to her field, earned her master’s and doctoral degrees from Ohio State.
The most recent of her four books, Making Their Own Way: Narratives for Transforming Higher Education to Promote Self-Development, is considered a ground-breaking work. It extends a longitudinal study of 101 college students, started in 1986, that follows them from graduation to their early 30s. It examines the impact a college education has on students’ careers and personal lives after they graduate and offers a new framework for higher education to better achieve its responsibility for fostering critical thinking, citizenship and leadership.
Baxter Magolda has twice won American College Personnel Association awards for outstanding research and received the Richard T. Delp Outstanding Faculty Award from the School of Education and Allied Professions in 1996.
She joined the Miami faculty in 1983.
