University Senate Nov. 19 approved Senate Resolution 02-06, Reconsideration of Class Withdrawal Policy, by a vote of 36 Yes, 9 No and 2 Abstention.
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the University Senate agrees to reconsider the Class Withdrawal Policy, SR 01-04, adopted on Feb. 26, 2001, and to ask that the resolution not be forwarded to the Board of Trustees at its December 2001 meeting. Be it further resolved that President Garland be invited to Senate at the earliest possible regularly scheduled meeting to discuss his position on the matter after which a sense of the Body will be taken.
Twenty-five members of Faculty Assembly can challenge the resolution by filing a petition with the secretary of the university within 10 class days after its publication in this issue of The Miami Report.
In other business, senators voted to rescind Senate Resolution SR 01-08 which referred the W(AD)/WF(AD) proposal to an ad hoc committee. Senate members voted to refer the W(AD)/WF(AD) proposal to the Academic Policy Committee, recommending that the committee consult with the registrar’s office.
John Grunwell (chemistry and biochemistry) and Sheldon Davis (mathematics and statistics) presented a proposal regarding students’ excused absences from class. Senate referred this proposal to the MUPIM team to draft appropriate wording for Senate’s consideration.
