Collage method reveals portrait of Woolf
The Miami University Performing Arts Series presents "ROOM," a work based on the writings of British author Virginia Woolf, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 13, in Gates-Abegglen Theatre, Center for Performing Arts.
Created and performed by the SITI Company, the production features Ellen Lauren in a one-woman performance.
"Lauren does not so much ‘play Woolf’ as enact a journey through Woolf’s thought, as reshaped for this later century. … So what is it? You might call it stand-up literature, but only in the sense that it speaks directly to the imagination," wrote a Post-Gazette drama critic.
The piece explores the need to move, breath, imagine and create. After "ROOM" premiered, the Columbus Dispatch wrote, "Anne Bogart’s innovative New York troupe has done it again, creating a post-modernist montage of words, images and sounds that takes willing viewers on a fascinating interior journey."
The SITI Company will be at Miami as part of the department of theatre’s Cromer/Flory Performing Artists-in-Residence program.
A pre-performance panel discussion featuring Anne Bogart, artistic director of the SITI Company, will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, April 12, in Souers Recital Hall. "Talk backs" with performer Ellen Lauren will follow the two evening performances.
This is a Heartland Arts Fund Program.
