Cayton aids project on Butler County Amish Mennonite community

Andrew R.L. Cayton, Distinguished Professor of History, is serving as historian for "Once Upon a Farm: A Driving Tour of the Historic Amish Mennonite Community of Butler County."

The project, which will result in a map and illustrated guidebook for a self-guided tour, has received an award from the Ohio Humanities Council and the Ohio Bicentennial Commission.

The Friends of Chrisholm, a nonprofit volunteer group supporting the restoration of the Chrisholm Historic Farmstead, will use the funds to provide the guide for visitors to the farmsteads, businesses, cemeteries and other sites associated with the historical Amish Mennonite community in the Trenton area.

The project will be completed early next year and will be introduced to the public at a special Inaugural Bicentennial Tour and Symposium in June 2003.

The event and the map and guidebook will be offered free to the public.
