Students and residents join to make a difference
The Miami Make A Difference Day committee has signed volunteers for local projects occurring on or around Make A Difference Day, Saturday, Oct. 26.
Now in its 11th year of coordinated volunteer projects, Make A Difference Day has become the largest community service effort in the nation.
Miami projects include:
Starting at 10 a.m. Oct. 26, students will clean up the Mile Square area in central Oxford as well as help neighbors with yard or housework and other projects in a Citywide Projects activity.
From 1-4 p.m., Miami students join students from Talawanda elementaries to present a Haunted Harvest at the Oxford View Nursing Center, 6099 Fairfield Road. Students will make crafts, play cards with and entertain residents and families and offer a trick-or-treat for the elementary children.
Workout for Wishes 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. The workout will feature several areas of circuit training at the recreational sports center. All proceeds from donations for participation will go to the Oxford United Way.
CANstruction, in which canned goods are built into a structure, unites Make a Difference volunteers with Delta Sigma Pi and elementary students. Donated canned goods will be collected at Kramer and Marshall elementaries and through Miami student organizations until Nov. 13, when architecture students of Gail Della Piana and members of Delta Sigma Pi and the Make A Difference Day committee will build can structures with elementary students in their schools. Cans will be donated to the Kiwanis food drive Nov. 15.
