Wickrema to present Graduate Alumni Lecture
Amittha Wickrema, assistant professor of medicine and director of the Clinical Cell Engineering Laboratory at the University of Chicago, will present a Graduate Alumni Lecture at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, in 150 Hughes Laboratories. His topic will be "Biochemical and Immunological Approaches to Suppression of Tumor Cell Growth."
Wickrema earned a Ph.D. in chemistry in 1989 at Miami, where he worked in Jan Jaworski’s lab.
Wickrema’s research is in the area of cancer biology. His laboratory is interested in understanding the cellular signaling pathways and mechanisms regulating the growth of malignant and normal blood cells. The goal is to identify compounds that can be used to suppress cell growth and cause the death of malignant cells.
Support for the seminar was provided by the Graduate School.
Refreshments will be served at 3:45 p.m. in 153 Hughes Laboratories.
The seminar is free and open to the public.
