Reading to fight hunger

This year’s Writers Harvest reading will take place at 8 p.m. today (Nov. 21) in Room 100 of the art building. Coming exactly one week before Thanksgiving, it is also the day that nearly 1,000 Miami students have pledged their dinner meal to help fight hunger and illiteracy in our area as part of Hunger Awareness Week, coordinated by the creative writing program and the Miami chapter of Amnesty International.

At the Writer’s Harvest, faculty members of the creative writing program, including Keith Banner, Eric Goodman, Dave Kajganich, Eric Melbye, Tim Melley, Jim Reiss, Kay Sloan and Keith Tuma, will read short selections from their poetry and fiction to help fight hunger in the greater Cincinnati area. All proceeds from the reading will go to the FreeStore/FoodBank in the Over-the-Rhine in Cincinnati. In addition to the readings there will be a short presentation by Gary Goosman, FoodBank director at the FreeStore/FoodBank.

Suggested donations are $5 for students and staff, $10 for faculty.

For anyone who cannot attend the reading but would still like to make a donation, make tax-deductible checks out to FreeStore/FoodBank and send to Eric Goodman (English).
