Conservationist to speak for Reunion Weekend
Conservationist and author Robert Michael Pyle will speak on "Knowing Our Home, Securing Our Future: A Little Love Song to Museums" at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in 128 Pearson Hall.
His talk kicks off the Hefner Zoology Museum’s grand reopening celebration, held in conjunction with Miami’s Reunion Weekend 2003.
Founder of the Xerces Society for invertebrate conservation, Pyle has worked as a butterfly conservation consultant for the government of Papua New Guinea and as a Northwest Land Steward for The Nature Conservancy. A lifelong conservationist, he received the 1997 Distinguished Service Award from the Society for Conservation Biology.
Following his talk, the public is invited to the Hefner Zoology Museum in 100 Upham Hall for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception. A special presentation will be made to the family of Robert A. Hefner. The late "Doc" Hefner was a member of Miami’s faculty for 60 years and founded the museum that bears his name.
All events are free and open to the public.
