Band to march in Macy’s parade

The Miami University Marching Band, directed by David Shaffer, has been selected to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Shaffer said more than 100 bands applied for spots and Miami was one of only 12 chosen to appear.

The 77th annual parade is expected to draw more than 64 million viewers worldwide.

"We’ll get two minutes of uninterrupted exposure," says Shaffer, as Miami will preview the Santa float, considered the most prestigious band slot.

"When the Miami band is finally standing at the corner of 77th Street and Central Park West, we will hear, ‘please join the parade,’" adds Shaffer. "At that time we will become a part of ‘the longest running show on Broadway’."

Plans call for the band to be in New York Nov. 25-29.
