Museum to showcase Native American art

An exhibition of artworks by the Myaami people will be held at the Miami University Art Museum Nov. 4 through Feb. 1.

"Myaami: Contemporary Artists of the Miami Nation" will showcase the achievements of contemporary artists inspired by their heritage as Myaami people wherever they may live, according to art museum curator Edna C. Southard, who organized the exhibition along with Julie Olds, cultural preservation officer for the Miami Nation in Oklahoma.

Artworks including beading, painting, ribbonwork, pottery and jewelry will be featured, by artists Evelyn Bellmyer, Katrina Mitten, Scott Shoemaker, Eugene Brown, Jessie Baldwin, Watona Robards, Daryl Baldwin Sr. and Olds.

The exhibition is part of the museum’s silver anniversary celebration.

Hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, call 9-2232.
