Badiali honored with Excellence in Education Award

Bernard Badiali (educational leadership) has been honored with the 2003 Excellence in Education Award from the College of Education at Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction in 1985. The award is the highest honor given an alumnus of the college and is sponsored by the College of Education Alumni Society.

Badiali has been a member of Miami’s faculty since 1992.

“As a department chair and associate professor, Bernard has helped his department establish a climate of learning where future scholars from diverse backgrounds acquire the skills to carry on the investigation of education and the training of its practitioners,” says Susan Mosley-Howard, dean of students.

Badiali’s main teaching and research activities have been in the areas of school/university relationships, staff development, school reform, supervision and curriculum. He is a project associate for the Secondary Schools Renewal Project sponsored by the A.V. Davis Foundation.

Badiali has consulted with numerous colleges and universities throughout the country as well as more than 30 school districts primarily in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio. He was the university liaison to Madeira City Schools 1997-2001.

He has published articles in numerous educational journals including Education, American Secondary Education and the Peabody Journal of Education. His most recent book, Teacher Leader (with Thomas Poetter) was released by Eye on Education in 2000. In 2004, Badiali will become associate editor of the Journal of Cases in Educational Leadership (JCEL).
