Mock trial team victorious at ‘Cornshucker’ Challenge

A Miami mock trial team claimed the championship at the University of Iowa “Cornshucker” Invitational hosted by the defending national mock trial champions and top-ranked mock trial program, the University of Iowa, Nov. 8 and 9 in Iowa City.

Thirty-six teams competed, including most of the 20 top-ranked programs in the nation. Miami, currently the second-ranked program nationally, fielded two varsity teams.

Miami took first place by defeating Marquette University, two University of California-Berkeley teams and the University of Kansas. Iowa and UCLA finished second and third respectively.

Brad Keffer, a senior marketing major, tied for the tournament’s top attorney award.

Miami’s second squad finished in the middle of the pack by splitting its trials.

The Miami squads are coached by Dan Haughey, Wayne Staton, Dan Herron (all finance), attorney Angela Haughey and graduate assistant Andrew Hogan.
