Author of Jefferson’s Children to speak

Shannon Lanier and Jane Feldman will speak in a session open to students, staff and faculty at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, in the Great Room of MacMillan Hall.

Lanier is a direct descendent of Thomas Jefferson and author of Jefferson’s Children: The Story of One American Family. Feldman is co-author/photographer of the book.

Lanier and Feldman also will be featured speakers at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, in the Shriver Center multipurpose rooms for the Freedom Fund dinner of the Oxford Branch of the NAACP. The annual dinner is a fund raiser for the group’s scholarship program.

Lanier wrote Jefferson’s Children when he was 19. Now 24, he is a graduate of Kent State University and studied multiculturalism in Europe at the invitation of two universities there. In Cincinnati, he hosted the Emmy Award-winning television show “Real Exchange.”

Feldman has devoted much professional and personal time to nonprofit organizations that promote youth empowerment, including the Annenberg Foundation and the Citikids Foundation. Much of her work focuses on confronting racism.

Tickets to the Freedom Fund dinner are $25 each. For more information, call Vanessa Cummings at 9-8535.
