Draft of IT services strategic plan under review

The effort to develop and implement a strategic planning project for information technology (IT) at Miami continues. This strategic plan and process will integrate and support the overall university mission and the First in 2009 goals.

Interested staff, faculty or students can participate in an open forum to discuss the strategic plan at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, at Shriver Center multipurpose room C.

Close to 800 people responded to an online survey in the fall, and there was representation across the campuses through think tank sessions, focus groups and interviews.

A first draft of the Information Technology Strategic Plan is under review by the college, schools, libraries, regional campuses, technology-related committees and administrative groups.

“We wanted to ensure that the academic and administrative communities were able to review the plan and provide consensus feedback through their normal means of evaluation. We plan to meet with representatives for each of these groups and address their input during the week of Feb. 16,” said Reid Christenberry, vice president for information technology.

The plan is designed to lay the foundation for the subsequent development of more detailed objectives, time-driven tactical plans for fiscal year 2005 and measures to ensure ongoing effectiveness.

“We will begin to prioritize the recommendations when we develop the specific objectives and tactics. We plan to consider the urgency, criticality to the university’s mission, breadth of impact, resource requirements, sequencing and dependencies in making our recommendations,” said Christenberry.

A current draft of the plan is online at
