Public culture symposium

The American studies program will host a public culture symposium, "The Transformation of Public Culture: Assessing the Politics of Diversity, Democracy and Community in the United States," March 4-6.

Spencer Crew, executive director of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, will give the opening lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, in the Great Room, MacMillan Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating reservations must be made by contacting at the Center for American and World Cultures.

Presentations will be held throughout the day on March 5 and 6 at the Marcum Conference Center.

The symposium is sponsored by the American studies program with support from the Center for American and World Studies, the E.E. McClellan Lecture Fund, the John B. Altman Fund and the Manning Morgan Memorial Lecture Fund.
