IMS media forum to feature art, live performance
A conference, a concert and contemporary art connect at Miami's Center for Interactive Media Studies (IMS)'s 2004 Interactive Media Forum: Creative Space/Digital Space, Oct. 11-12.
Online registration is open for this exploration into interactive game and film design, electronic music, digital architecture, intellectual property rights, interactive writing, graphic design, interactive media pedagogies, art history, digital photography and more.
An international panel of artists and academics will present research papers, art exhibits and live multimedia performances throughout the conference at Shriver Center. A related art exhibit also will be installed in the Cage Gallery located in Alumni Hall (Sept. 29-Oct. 12).
A highlight of the conference will be the presentation of a new work, “The End of the Moon,” by multimedia performance artist Laurie Anderson. She will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, in Hall Auditorium. All paying conference participants will receive a ticket to the concert in addition to an invitation-only “meet the artist” reception immediately following the concert.
Tickets to the concert, presented by Miami's Performing Arts Series, can also be purchased separately through the box office at 9-3200 or www.tickets.muohio.edu.
This is the fifth annual conference sponsored by IMS.
The center attracts students from majors such as computer science, English, graphic design, communications and marketing. IMS adds studies in e-commerce, project management and usability. The senior-level course functions as a consulting agency pairing top students with business clients to give students a realistic view of working in the digital media industry, with clients such as Cincom, Cintas, Convergys, P&G and The Taft Museum of Art.
Conference details and online registration can be found by calling conference coordinator Chris Starkey at 9-1637 or by visiting www.muohio.edu/ims/conference.
