A lot in common: class of 2008 boasts eight pairs of twins
Sixteen Miami freshmen have more in common than membership in the class of 2008: Eight pairs of twins chose to attend the school with their siblings. It’s a Miami record, according to Mike Mills, admission director.
Pictured are five of the eight pairs of twins: Front to back, left to right: Elizabeth and Anne Rohlfer of Cincinnati; Kimberly and Stephanie Nguyen of Westerville; Katherine and Jeffrey Ross of Dublin; Benjamin and Katharine Garbarek of Des Plaines, Ill.; and Nick and Jon Otto of Oxford. Not pictured: David and Edwin Reif of Westerville, Kristin and Stephanie Rotar of Concord and Catherine and Laura Tedford of Mason.
Three pairs live in the same residence hall (Tappan) although only one pair, the Rohlfers, chose to room together. “We’ve shared a room all our life,” said Anne. Two pairs share the same major: The Reifs are general business majors and Nick and Jon Otto are education majors.
Seeing double on campus may become more common: The twin birth rate when these students were born was 21.2 per 1,000 live births; the current rate (2002 figures) is 31.1 per 1,000 live births.
