Senate approves resolution on Bishop Woods

University Senate Oct. 18 heard reports from Paul Anderson (English) and from Scott Johnston (architecture and interior design). Anderson, chair of the accreditation steering committee for the 2005 accreditation review by the North Central Association's Higher Learning Commission, spoke on the comment draft of the accreditation self-study report. Johnston, chair of the campus planning committee, reported on the site-selection process for the new school of business.

Senate discussed ways to make Miami's governance system more efficient and effective. Senate approved the Sept. 27 minutes and Senate Resolution SR 05-02:

WHEREAS: Resolution R83-26 of the Miami University Board of Trustees, passed on December 4, 1982, identified the Bishop Circle Area to be an Open Space Area deserving permanent protection, and

WHEREAS: President Paul G. Pearson established in 1992 the Miami University Natural Areas System, intended to preserve green space and natural habitat in our area,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT Bishop Woods be designated as part of Miami University Natural Areas System and be preserved in perpetuity as such.

The next meeting of University Senate will be Nov. 1 in 111 Harrison Hall.
