Katie N. Johnson

Katie N. Johnson has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of English.

Johnson specializes in theatre, film and gender studies. Her work has appeared in Theatre Journal, Theatre Survey and elsewhere. Her first book, Sisters in Sin: Staging the Brothel Drama in the American Progressive Era (1899-1922), which was supported by an NEH Summer Stipend, is forthcoming from Cambridge University Press.

In 2003 Johnson was awarded the Gerald Kahan Award for best essay in the field of theatre studies by a younger scholar by the American Society for Theatre Research. An affiliate in the women's studies and film studies programs, Johnson has also taught in the honors and Western College programs. She has also directed and acted in two campus productions of The Vagina Monologues as well as theatre projects at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.

She earned a Ph.D. in theatre history, theory and criticism at the University of Washington in 1996.
