Peter Magolda receives EAP teaching award

Peter Magolda (educational leadership) is the 2005 recipient of the Richard T. Delp Outstanding Faculty Award from the School of Education and Allied Professions.

The award is given to one outstanding faculty member each year who has significantly influenced the lives of students through formal course instruction, tutorials, involvement in experiential learning and advising; who provides leadership in program renewal; who is actively engaged in scholarship that informs their teaching, advances the field and/or addresses problems in professional practice; and who regularly applies knowledge in their field to significant issues in service to the institution and broader society.

“In an age where assessment is a watchword in educational institutions at all levels, Peter's work is shaping assessment practices in higher education through the sensitive and intelligent application of ethnographic inquiry to particular programs, divisions and institutions all around the nation,” wrote a colleague in support of Magolda's nomination.

Magolda, co-author of Job One: Experiences of New Professionals in Student Affairs, teaches courses in Miami's college student personnel program. Students remark that in his role as a faculty member, he is an important influence:

“He has molded my writing skills…and my ability to select research topics that not only are interesting but bring about change. ... I am truly grateful for educators like Peter who go above their duties to truly include students in the manner in which Peter does,” wrote one former student.
Magolda joined Miami's CSP faculty in 1994.
