Performing Arts Series to present Emerson String Quartet Oct. 24
The Emerson String Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, in Hall Auditorium, part of the Miami University Performing Arts Series. Described in Time magazine as “America's greatest quartet,” the Emerson String Quartet regularly performs in major concert halls of North America and Europe. The ensemble has been recognized with six Grammy awards, including two for “best classical album.”
For the Miami concert, the Emerson will play a Mozart Quartet in C Major, “Dissonant”; Bartok Quartet No. 2; and a Mendelssohn Quartet in D Major.
Since 2002, the Emerson has been in residence at Stony Brook University, coaching chamber music, giving master classes and providing instrumental instruction. The ensemble initiated an international chamber music festival at Stony Brook in 2004; a second is planned in May 2006.
This season, the quartet continues an exploration of the works of Dmitri Shostakovich, with summer performances of “The Noise of Time” in both Paris and Moscow. In April and May 2006, the Emerson will perform the complete Shotakovich string quartet cycle for Great Performers at Lincoln Center. The cycle also will be performed in five concerts in London.
Tickets are $8 for Miami students and youth, $15 for senior citizens and $16 for other adults.
