Freedom Summer walking tours

“Walk With Me: Freedom Summer Training at Western College,” an interactive walking tour, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, and 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18. Tours begin in front of Clawson Hall on Western Drive and last for approximately 45 minutes. They are free and open to the public.

The walking tour recreates the mood of the summer of 1964 using oral histories, letters and diaries of participants. Guides also represent historical figures.

The tour was created by Miami students with Ann Elizabeth Armstong (theatre) and was part of a fall 2004 Freedom Summer conference and reunion. The project continues an interdisciplinary initiative sponsored by the President's Academic Enrichment Fund. The tour is sponsored by the theatre department, Center for American and World Cultures and the Ohio Humanities Council.

Tours also can be arranged by request for groups of 5-25 through Nov. 4. For more information, call 9-8309.
