Miami Steel Band to present fall concerts Oct. 27 and 28
The Miami University Steel Band will present its 11th annual fall concert series at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Oct. 27 and 28, in Hall Auditorium. Chris Tanner is director.
The band will perform Caribbean and Latin American music and original compositions by Tanner. Tanner's pieces include two calypsos, “Simple Pleasures” and “Play Dat Ting,” and a ballad, “Passage of Souls.” “Simple Pleasures” also will be the title cut on a new Steel Band CD, due for an April 2006 release. The band's music also is available at the online iTunes music store.
The Steel Band performs regularly on campus and throughout the tri-state region. In November, the ensemble will perform at the 30th anniversary of the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Columbus. The convention is considered the premier event in the percussion world, with more than 6,000 drummers and percussionists attending for more than 150 events on 12 stages. This is the Miami ensemble's second appearance at the convention.
Tickets to the Miami concert are $5 for students, youth and senior citizens and $7 for the general public.
