Cowan appointment as Miami Middletown leader extended

Kelly Cowan, interim executive director at Miami Middletown, has been asked to continue to serve in that role through the 2006-2007 academic year.

Jeffrey Herbst, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost, asked Cowan to remain in the position for the second year. “Kelly's leadership has been evident from the very beginning, and I am pleased she is willing to continue to serve the campus, the university and the community for a second year,” Herbst said.

Community outreach has been one of Cowan's key initiatives this year, marked recently by a three-way pact among Miami Middletown, Middletown City Schools and the city of Middletown to work together for the city and people of Middletown. A campus outreach team has been formed in response to Cowan's challenge to the faculty and staff of the campus, and recently the campus signed an agreement with the Middletown Area Family YMCA to extend operations of the child care facilities on the campus throughout the year.

A national search for the campus' executive director will begin in the fall of 2006.
