Students compete in Chicago Marathon to support JKS Fund
Miami seniors joined alumni to compete in the Chicago Marathon Oct. 8 to raise money to establish a JKS Scholarship Fund. The scholarship remembers their Miami friends who died last spring in a house fire in Oxford: Julie Trumbull, Steve J. Smith and Kate Welling.
Bill Scully (Miami '04) and Jessica Hypes, a senior psychology major, initiated the fundraiser, “Running to Remember.” Other current Miami students competing included Margaret Naeny, Hadley Brink, Kristine Bishop, Elizabeth Zeidner and Aubin Gilbert.
The marathon was the highlight of several weekend activities that raised money for the scholarship fund, including a pre-race pasta dinner, post-race party and sales of a T-shirt designed by Julie Trumbull's father, Doug. Participating students and alumni raised $8,000.
Donations are still being accepted. Send to: JKS Scholarship Fund, c/o Bill Scully, 1901 N. Rhodes St., Apt. #41, Arlington, Va. 22201.
