Multimedia artist to perform Dec. 1
Multimedia artist Alan Sondheim will give a performance of his work at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in Leonard Theater, Peabody Hall.
Sondheim's work is “trans-media” with an emphasis on writing, theory and digital performance. His performances have been described as spontaneous, one-of-a-kind events: “He displays videos and photographs, and plays soundtracks accompanied by his live, real-time typing response along the bottom of the screen onto which the foregoing are projected.”
He has taught new media and online writing, and is author of several books including Being Online: Net Subjectivity, Orders of the Real and The Wayward. Since 1994 he has been working on an “Internet Text,” a “continuous meditation on philosophy, psychology, language, body and virtuality.”
Sondheim has been a Virtual Writer-in-Residence for the Trace online writing community at Nottingham-Trent University, England, and a resident artist/writer at Grand Central Art Center in Santa Ana, Calif.
His performance, free and open to the public, is sponsored by the department of English. For more information, call 9-5221.
