Alumni association honors staff, faculty and alums at banquet
Awards given annually by the Miami University Alumni Association were presented this year at a banquet Oct. 14 on the Oxford campus.
Don King, executive director of Carillon Catering, received the Dave Roberts Service Award, presented in memory of Miami's former director of physical facilities. The award honors employees who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty in service to the division.
Jim and Carole Garland were named Honorary Members of the association for service that has been “distinctive for its passion and devotion.” The citation noted their steadfast leadership in transforming Miami for the challenges of the 21st century while working to keep Miami personal to alumni and to students - from visiting with freshman on move-in day to hosting events in their home at Lewis Place.
Dennis Sullivan (economics) received this year's Alumni Association Effective Educator Award. (See story, The Miami University Report, Sept. 8, 2005.)
The A.K. Morris award, which recognizes those members of Miami's faculty or staff who have gone beyond the scope of their official duties in service to alumni and the association, was presented to Marijo Nootz, director of the Shriver Center.
Richard T. Farmer '56 received the Distinguished Achievement Award, presented to alumni who have excelled in their field of endeavor, bringing recognition not only to themselves but also to their alma mater.
Richard Gleick '62 and Sheldon Veil '50 received the John E. Dolibois Award, which recognizes those alumni who provide continuous and meritorious service to the Alumni Association.
Amy Russell Halm '97 and Vicki Rigling '95 received the Kenneth Gambee Young Alumni Award, recognizing the important contributions of recent graduates to the alumni program.
The Bishop Medal honors those individuals who, over the course of their lifetime, provide distinctive levels of support to their community through volunteer efforts. This year's recipient is Carrie Hayden '81.
An Honorary Lifetime Membership in the alumni association was presented to Jeff Outcalt, who has been an active participant in the Southern California alumni chapter along with his wife, Gail '75.
