Parachute project aids children in need

Miami's classified personnel advisory committee (CPAC) is seeking donations and volunteers for its 10th annual holiday project that benefits children in Butler County's PARACHUTE program. PARACHUTE is part of a national organization known as CASA that provides court appointed special advocates for children in the legal system due to abuse and neglect. The advocates stand up for and guide these children through the court process until a permanent home can be found.

Tax-deductible contributions will be used to purchase duffel bags for the children to carry their belongings. The bags will be filled with games, toys and personal items selected and wrapped by volunteers.

More than 600 children have been helped since the project began.

Send checks made payable to Parachute Project to Irene Pierce, naval sciences, 67 Millett Hall.

Needed items, including new board games, sport balls, children's books and children's wrapping paper (but no bows or ribbons) can be dropped off to Anita Sackenheim, project chair, 106 Phillips Hall.

To volunteer to purchase (Dec. 10) or wrap gifts (Dec. 12-14), call Sackenheim at 9-2700.
