Senate approves resolutions making changes to by-laws
University Senate Nov. 21 approved the Nov. 7 minutes, the consent calendar and resolutions SR 06-10, 06-11 and SR 06_12.
Senate discussed ways Miami might proceed to revise the university's mission statement (Miami University Policy and Information Manual, Section 1.1). The next meeting will be 3:05 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5, 111 Harrison Hall.
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Bylaws of University Senate, Section 6.B.9.a, Committee Structure of University Senate, Standing Committees of University Senate, Fiscal Priorities and Budget Planning Committee, be amended as set forth below:
6.B.9. Fiscal Priorities and Budget Planning Committee
a. The Fiscal Priorities and Budget Planning Committee shall be composed of five (5) faculty, at least one (1) of whom shall be a member of University Senate; one (1) classified staff member; one (1) unclassified staff member; one (1) undergraduate student; and one (1) graduate student. In addition, a representative of the Office of Finance and Business Services and a representative of the Office of the Provost shall serve as liaisons and ex-officio, nonvoting members to provide information, data, and expertise to the Committee.
BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Bylaws of University Senate, Section 6.C.6.c.1, Committee Structure of University Senate, Advisory Committees of University Senate, International Education Committee, Miami University Dolibois European Center (MUDEC) Subcommittee be amended as set forth below:

(1) The Miami University Dolibois European Center Subcommittee shall be composed of six (6) faculty (one of whom shall be appointed Chair); one (1) student with an alternate. BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED that the Standing Rules of University Senate, Meeting Procedures, Senate, Section 5, paragraph three be amended as set forth below:
The Secretary of the Senate or the Parliamentarian of the Senate shall read the roll and each member present shall vote “aye,” “nay,” or “present” (but not voting). The Secretary or the Parliamentarian shall record these votes and also shall record absent members of the Senate as “absent.”
Twenty-five members of Faculty Assembly can challenge the resolutions by filing a petition with the secretary of the university within 10 class days after their publication in this issue of The Miami Report. Absent a challenge by Faculty Assembly, these policies will be forwarded to the president and the Board of Trustees for consideration.
