Symphony Orchestra, Concerto Competition winners, May 7

The Miami University Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ricardo Averbach, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in Hall Auditorium. The free concert will feature the student winners of the music department’s annual Concerto Competition.

The Concerto Competition winners and the pieces they will perform are:

  • Bobby Fisco, sophomore music performance major, trombone: Trombone Concerto by Launy Grøndahl;
  • Lizabeth Malanga, graduate student in music performance, vocalist: "Les Nuits d’été, Op. 7" by Hector Berlioz; and
  • Wenyin (Phoenix) Deng, violinist and music graduate student in music performance, violin: Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky.

The orchestra will also perform "Haydn Variations" by Brahms; "William Tell Overture" by Rossini" and "Two Slavonic Dances, Op. 46" by Dvorak.
