Eight Miami students named semi-finalists in Fulbright competition

Eight Miami University students have been named semi-finalists in the 2016-2017 Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant competition.

The largest U.S. exchange program, Fulbright awards students travel grants to teach or research overseas.

Miami’s eight semi-finalists, the highest number for Miami in at least 10 years, are:

Matthew Armelli - Graduated December 2015, German major, English teaching assistant in Germany.

Rebekah Harper – Senior, integrated English language arts education major and rhetoric and writing minor, English teaching assistant in Turkey.

Jacqueline Jeambey – Senior, biology and earth science/ life science education double major, English teaching assistant in Bulgaria.

Jonathan Meyer – Senior, international studies and German double major and history minor, English teaching assistant in Germany.

Kayla Orta - Graduated May 2015, individualized studies and international studies double major and German and Chinese minors, Korean Studies Graduate Degree Grant for research in South Korea.

Emily Paxson – Senior, business economics and international studies double major and international business minor, English teaching assistant in Bulgaria.

William Smeal – Senior, Spanish and linguistics double major and Latin American studies and Lusophone studies minors, English teaching assistant in Bulgaria.

John Steele - Graduated May 2014, social justice studies major and political science minor, English teaching assistant in Turkey.

Miami has had recipients of Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants every year since 2005, including four students last year.
