Miami University NROTC to host RedHawk Games

rotc-memorialMiami University’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) is hosting the RedHawk Games drill meet March 31-April 1.

This is the first competition at Miami in more than 20 years. It’s held to test the discipline of NROTC units, forge camaraderie and esprit de corps among college students.

Events at this year’s RedHawk Games include platoon drill, squad drill, color guard, pistol and rifle marksmanship and a seven-mile endurance race.

Other schools participating include NROTC units from Illinois Institute of Technology, Iowa State University, Northwestern University, Ohio State University and University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign.

The public is invited to view the following free events, both on April 1;

  • Close-order drill events, 8 a.m.-noon at Yager Stadium.
  • Endurance race, 7-11 a.m., near Millett Hall, on the Miami trails, and through Miami’s campus.

“The RedHawk Games uphold the age-old military tradition of healthy competition,” said Major Steve Haack, assistant professor of naval science and executive officer for Miami University NROTC.

Miami’s NROTC unit competed in October at the University of Wisconsin-Madison drill meet and placed first in platoon drill and second in both squad drill and pistol shooting.
